Eva Mendes Won’t Be Celebrating Her First Mother’s Day Because She “Hasn’t Earned Her Stripes Yet”

Though she became a first-time mom last September, Eva Mendes insists she won’t be celebrating Mother’s Day this year — because she doesn’t feel she’s earned the right!

“There is no plan. I kind of feel like I haven’t quite earned my stripes yet in a way. [My daughter is only] seven months,” the 42-year-old actress said of baby Esmeralda in a new interview.

“This Mother’s Day is definitely all about my mom. She’s had a really hard year. My brother [is battling cancer], so it’s all about my mom, honoring her. We’re all going to go over to her house and bombard her with love,” she told ‘Access Hollywood‘ on Tuesday, May 5.

Eva and her boyfriend, Ryan Gosling, 34, began dating in 2011 after costarring in the crime drama ‘The Place Beyond the Pines.’ The couple welcomed their first child, Esmeralda, in September 2014.

After becoming a mom, the ‘Hitch’ star gushed about loving every minute she spends with her newborn daughter. “I’m actually enjoying the sleepless nights because it’s bonding with my little girl,” she told ‘Women’s Health‘ of motherhood in a March 2015 interview.
