When Eva Marie Saint first met Cary Grant on the set of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1959 thriller North by Northwest, he made her a promise.
"He said, ‘This is going to be fun. No tears!’” the 91-year-old actress recently told Closer on the TCM Classic Cruise.

“What he meant was I had cried in On the Waterfront and A Hatful of Rain. I said, ‘Sounds good to me!’”
That’s just one of Eva's cherished memories, starting with her 1954 film debut, opposite Marlon Brando in Elia Kazan’s On the Waterfront.

Before shooting her first scene, “Elia said, ‘Visualize you’re in a forest and you could be attacked by a ferocious animal, and you’re scared,’” she recalls. “I was thinking, He doesn’t have to tell me I’m scared!”
