The legendary singer canceled his April and May concerts at his Las Vegas residency in order to focus on his health after contracting a deadly bacterial infection. Elton John's rep released a statement confirming the harrowing health scare: "During a recent, successful tour of South America, Elton contracted a harmful and unusual bacterial infection."

The statement continued, "During his return flight home from Santiago, Chile, he became violently ill. Upon returning to the U.K., Elton’s doctors admitted him to the hospital, where he underwent immediate treatment to remove the infection."

"After spending two nights in intensive care followed by an extended stay in the hospital, Elton was released from the hospital on Saturday, April 22 and is now comfortably resting at home per doctor’s advice. Infections of this nature are rare and potentially deadly."

The "Rocket Man" singer's rep continued, "Thankfully, Elton’s medical team identified this quickly and treated it successfully. He is expected to make a full and complete recovery.”

The father-of-two commented, saying, "I am so fortunate to have the most incredible and loyal fans and apologize for disappointing them. I am extremely grateful to the medical team for their excellence in looking after me so well."

The 70-year-old singer is now resting at home while his husband David Furnish, and their sons Zachary, 6, and Elijah, 4 care for him.
