Ellen and Portia set the record straight!
Reports surfaced earlier this week that comedienne Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, failed to fulfill a commitment to appear at a fundraising event because they were embattled in a marital strife.
But the couple's rep is now speaking out about the false accusations, stating Ellen, 56, and Portia, 41, never confirmed they would be present at Saving Spot!'s Los Angeles shindig.
"We were happy to lend our names as honorary chairs and the organization was always aware that we would be unable to attend. This is the first time we have seen our images attached to the invite. It was not approved and it is misleading," the couple told E! News in a statement.
Confusion surrounding the couple's appearance at the event is plentiful, with many involved offering conflicting tales of why Ellen and Portia did not attend the fundraiser.
Ellen's assistant reportedly says the owner of Saving Spot! — an organization dedicated to finding new homes for rescued dogs in the LA area — was aptly reminded the morning of the event that the couple would not be at the soiree.
While Ellen and Portia maintain it was never confirmed they would make an appearance, another source says the organization's staff were under the impression they would be there and the couple canceled at the last minute.
All befuddled accounts aside, the couple, who were in attendance at the non-profit's fundraiser last year and even helped host the live auction, affirm they remain supportive of Saving Spot!
