It seems Drew Barrymore may be feeling a little lonely following her recent split!

While accepting a Humanitarian Award at the ASPCA’s 19th Annual Bergh Ball in NYC on Thursday, April 14, the 41-year-old actress opened up about still wanting an “unspoken, amazing bond” just weeks after announcing her divorce from estranged husband Will Kopelman.

While speaking of her past experiences adopting rescue dogs, Drew gushed about the impact pets have had on her life and what her dogs have taught her about relationships.

“I knew [my children] should have a friend. If there was one thing that was really tough growing up — no parents, boo hoo — I wanted my children, [Olive, 3, and Frankie, 23 months], to have someone to share [their lives] with,” the E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial star said of adopting two pups back in the 90s.

“I just want that unspoken, amazing bond, much like you have with animals,” she added. “So I was determined that I would get two dogs at the same time. I never make it easy on myself. God forbid I start with one pet. I was like, I want two.”

Drew and Will — who married in June 2012 — announced their separation after nearly four years of marriage on April 2.
