It's no secret that laptops are expensive — so why don't we take better care of them? For this week's DIY Friday, TV star Matt Iseman visited Hallmark Channel's hit daytime talk show, Home & Family, to give a tutorial on how expertly clean and care for your home computer. Check out the simple tips below!
First, turn over your computer and tap it to allow loose dirt and crumbs to fall out of the keyboard, etc.
Use a can of compressed air to further wedge crumbs out.
You can also use a toothbrush or makeup brush with a small amount to water to clean the laptop's surface.
Never use window cleaner, alcohol or paper towels to clean oils or dirt from your laptop. Use a damp microfiber cloth (never spray water directly on your computer) to wipe the computer clean.
Wash your hands before you use your laptop to avoid build-up of oils and grime on your screen and keyboard.
To ensure your laptop's battery lasts for years, avoid charging the computer at all times — this actually puts a strain on the battery!
Letting a battery drain all the way out is very stressful for your computer, so be sure to start charging it again once it gets down to 20% battery left.
Do let your laptop completely die once or twice a year to reset the battery life and always put it to sleep or in "hibernation mode" to let is rest between uses.
Always keep your laptop at a comfortable, room temperature. Don't let it get too overheated or too cold.
