E.T. may never have phoned her at home, but when you want to find Dee Wallace, she’ll be right there — inside her comfortable, Los Angeles ranch.
Nearly a decade before starring in the 1982 classic E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Dee’s husband and frequent costar, Christopher Stone, found this 3,000-square-foot house in Woodland Hills.
“I loved the energy,” she shares with Closer. “He knew as soon as he walked in, this would be the one I'd take. That's how connected we were.”
Even now, some 18 year after his passing, the presence of her "beloved soul mate" can still be found. "Every memory of Chris, of my daughter Gabrielle, it's all here," the 65-year old actress muses. "I think love really permeates the house.”
Visitors can feel it the moment they enter the four bedroom, three bathroom spread. To the left is a hallway with her most prized possessions: a family tree created by her mom, along with poems and a photo collage by her "best friend" Gabrielle, 25.
It leads to an office and living room where, when she's not working on projects like NBC's Grimm, Dee teaches acting and spiritual self-healing workshops.
With it's cozy furnishings and high-pitched ceilings, the room is bright and inviting, and exudes Dee's desire for a “lived-in home where there’s every kind of emotion and experience.”
Light steams in through elegant French doors, which offer a practical gateway to the backyard where Dee holds lavish, poolside New Year’s Eve parties.
Most times, however, it's a tranquil view — one also enjoyed from the dining room, which contains some of Dee’s many 19th-century antiques.
“Antiquing was one of the passions Chris and I shared,” she notes, pointing to a cowboy bathtub they found in Atlanta and a Dentzel carousel horse from the late 1890s. "I don't do it so much now because where am I going to put anything else? They can start to look tacky if there's too much."
The once-poor Kansas native appreciates how all the design touches "make every room bigger." And, for Dee, home really is where the heart is.
"I go to many Hollywood events in fancy mansions, but walking into a house with big rooms, a pool and a backyard is more than enough for me," she shares with a smile. "I really love my home."
Make sure to catch the actress on season finale of Grimm, May 16 on NBC!
