Not your best line, David Letterman.
According to a new report, the 68-year-old host made a sexist joke on the Late Show while trying to warm up the audience before filming began on Monday, April 20 — and the crowd was not amused.
When a young staffer asked David what advice he would give the upcoming class of college graduates, the star replied, "Treat a lady like a wh--e, and a wh--e like a lady."

"I turned to my wife and was, like, ‘What?'" an insider said of the gaffe. "It was really the first joke of the evening, and it seemed like an odd choice."

After realizing his pun — a version of a popular 1930s saying attributed to screenwriter Wilson Mizner — was ill-received, David allegedly further suggested graduates "eat a lot of salad" and always be kind to others.
The awkward moment comes just months before David will pass his 'Late Show' hosting duties over to Stephen Colbert in early September.
