Nighttime television certainly isn't the same without David Letterman! In an exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, the 70-year-old opened up about what he misses the most about doing his long-running series, Late Show With David Letterman — the live music, of course!

“I had it every night for 33 years,” he shared as he was honored with The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor Washington, D.C. “You can get [music] off of any device you have, but there’s something [great] about live music and watching [the band] that makes the live music.” As for being recognized that evening, David gushed, “I’m doing this for my son.”

While that was a nice perk, the talk show host revealed back in October that he does NOT miss doing the show "for a second." He told The Washington Post ahead of obtaining his prestigious award, “It was The Late Night Wars, oh ‘Jay’s winning, nobody likes me, and everybody likes Jay.’" The good news, as Closer Weekly previously reported, is that David is coming out of retirement for a Netflix project in 2018.

"I feel excited and lucky to be working on this project for Netflix," he said in a statement. "Here’s what I have learned — if you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first. Thanks for watching, drive safely." According to Entertainment Weekly, the upcoming, highly-anticipated series will focus on "in-depth conversations with extraordinary people, and in-the-field segments expressing his curiosity and humor."

Ted Sarandos — Netflix's Chief Content Officer — couldn't be happier about what's to come from this. "Just meeting David Letterman was a thrill; imagine how exciting it is for me to announce that we will be working together," he stated. "[He] is a true television icon, and I can’t wait to see him out in the wild, out from behind the desk and interviewing the people he finds most interesting. We’ll have to see if he keeps the beard."
