He’s only been a father for just a few days now, but Dave Coulier knows his good friend John Stamos is going to be an “incredible dad” to his newborn son Billy. The Fuller House star welcomed his firstborn with wife Caitlin McHugh over the weekend, and his co-star couldn’t be happier for him.

“He’s talked about it since I’ve known him, which is over 30 years. For a long time he wasn’t ready [to become a parent] and I think as life progressed it just became something that he really gravitated toward and it was a natural progression for him,” Dave gushed to People. “I’m so happy for him. He’s going to be an incredible dad.”

The 58-year-old Joey Gladstone actor continued, “John had a lot of practice with the Full House kids but that was not on the job training. Now he’ll have to actually change diapers! Caitlin couldn’t be a better mom and a better partner for him. We are very excited to welcome her to the family.” So sweet!

John took to Instagram after Billy was born, sharing the first photo of his son, as well as the meaning behind his name. “From now on, the best part of me will always be my wife and my son. Welcome Billy Stamos (named after my father) #NotJustanUncleAnymore #Overjoyed,” he wrote in his caption. According to Dave, he wasn’t surprised at all by the proud father’s name choice. “I was very close to John’s dad Bill, we were golf buddies. We shared a ton of laughs together while he was still alive,” Dave continued. “I know John looked up to his father immensely. I think it’s only fitting that his son’s name is Billy.”
