It was a battle of the sexes on tonight’s episode of Dancing With the Stars!

The competition is getting fierce! For week 6, the guys were pinned against the girls to see who can work together as a team to give the best performance as a boy band or a girl group — and it was definitely a tough race! Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter served as a guest judge, there was a surprise return for a beloved pro — and this week’s elimination shocked fans because the most unlikely contestant went home.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy came back!

After suffering a calf injury during week 2 of the season, the pro had to undergo surgery and physical therapy — but he made a speedy recovery and came back raring to go for week 6! He re-joined his partner, former Glee star Heather Morris, and they performed a lovely rumba to TLC’s 1994 hit song “Waterfalls” — and they received a nearly perfect score of 40/40!

Girl Group/Boy Band Dance-off

The four remaining guys — Nick Viall, Bonner Bolton, David Ross, and Rashad Jennings — performed to a medley of “Dancing Machine” by Jackson 5, “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” by New Kids on the Block, and “Best Song Ever” by One Direction — and their routine earned a 33/40.

As for the four remaining ladies — Nancy Kerrigan, Normani Kordei, Simone Biles, and Heather Morris — they also got to pay homage to the girl groups from then to now. Their medley included “My Boyfriend’s Back” by The Chiffons, “No Scrubs” by TLC, and “BO$$” by Fifth Harmony — the band that Normani is in.

Since the girls had an actual girl group member on their team, fans were sure they’d earn a perfect score — and even though they beat the boys by one point with 34/40, they were still up for elimination.
