Get well soon, Peta Murgatroyd!
The 29-year-old Dancing with the Stars pro will not compete on the reality show's upcoming 21st season due to an ankle injury, Peta revealed to People on the evening of Monday, Aug. 31.
"It was devastating news for me," she said of being told by her orthopedic surgeon that she requires a surgery that will sideline her "for six to eight weeks."

After performing the past three months on the DWTS Live Tour, Peta said she was eager to hit the dancefloor again this fall with her new celebrity partner, Andy Grammer, but immediately knew "something was not right" with her ankle during her first few rehearsals.

"I wanted to check it out properly and make sure I was good to go for the season," Peta said. "I got my MRI results back and it was a really bad diagnosis. It showed I had four torn ligaments and a floating piece of bone at the back of my ankle. My doctor said I needed surgery and I knew I needed to put my health first if I want to keep dancing on the show into my 30s."

"It was awful telling Andy. He had specifically asked to be partnered with me and I felt like I was letting him down," she added of her dance partner. "But he understood and has been a great guy about it."
Season 21 of Dancing with the Stars premieres Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
