'Dancing With the Stars' Couple Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd Welcome Baby No. 1 - Closer Weekly

Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are new parents!

The Dancing With the Stars couple welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Shai Aleksander Chmerkovskiy, on Wednesday, Jan. 4, Maks announced on Twitter.

"Shai Aleksander Chmerkovskiy. 01/04/17. 5:34 a.m.," the 36-year-old pro dancer wrote on the micro-blogging site.

On Tuesday, Jan. 3, Maks similarly took to social media to post a funny photo of his 30-year-old fiancée applying makeup in her hospital bed. "But first… a little makeup," he captioned the snapshot of Peta putting on mascara hours before giving birth to her son.

Rumors first swirled Peta and Maksim were expecting their first baby together in May 2016. The duo later confirmed the exciting news on Instagram one month later.

"We couldn't be happier. ❤️Baby Chmerkovskiy is coming," Peta captioned a sweet snapshot of Maks kissing her tiny baby bump.

In July 2016, eagle-eyed fans suspected Peta and Maks were having a baby boy when Maksim gave his bride-to-be a birthday cake adorned with blue frosting and a pair of tiny, blue baby booties.

The DWTS couple first became an item in 2012 and dated for 10 months before calling it quits. They rekindled their romance last year and Maks popped the question to Peta in December 2015. "She said 'yes,'" the TV star captioned a photo of himself proposing onstage during a performance of their show, Sway: A Dance Trilogy, in Miami.

In a previous interview, Peta gushed about starting a family with her love, Maks. "I would like to start [having kids] pretty soon. A little boy, and then a little girl," she said. “Maks always wants to take care of everybody, which, to me, was the biggest sign that he’ll be an amazing father and take care of me the rest of my life.”
