It seems Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid's breakup is more complicated than we thought.
According to a new report, the former couple — who allegedly called off their 17-month engagement late last month — "secretly split" in February before reconciling to attend intense relationship counseling.

A source close to the pair revealed it was Courteney's "bossy" and "mothering" nature that led to their first breakup earlier this year. "She is domineering and used to getting what she wants in her relationships and in work," the insider told The Sun newspaper. "She is tough and doesn't suffer fools. Johnny is laid back and their personalities just clashed. She would try to mother him and he didn't like it."

“He’s actually the one who instigated the breakup,” another source told Page Six, adding Johnny, 39, didn't appreciate how friendly his fiancée is with her male costars. "He doesn’t like the fact that she’s close to them, that she stays in touch with them [because] she has this past of falling in love with people she works with. He [felt] very uncomfortable.”

Courteney — who was previously married to David Arquette from 1999 until 2013 — and Johnny started dating in late 2013 after being introduced by their mutual friend, Ed Sheeran. The duo announced their engagement on Twitter in June 2014.
“[She] super upset about [ending the engagement]. She wants to be with him," the insider added to Page Six. “She’s told everybody that this is the most she’s ever been in love with anybody, more than with David or any of her exes.”
