Film legend Christopher Walken has been cast as Captain Hook in NBC's upcoming live production of Peter Pan, but he'll be bringing his own spin to the iconic Disney villain.
According to NBC Entertainment chairman, Bob Greenblatt, "This might be the first tap dancing Captain Hook you've ever seen," meaning the actor is prepared to show off his vast array of skills for the role.
Peter Pan follows the network's December production of The Sound of Music Live! which netted more than 18 million viewers during its first broadcast.
Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are returning for the project, reuniting with Christopher, who they worked with on the 2007 film adaptation of Hairspray.
"The exhilarating thing about doing these live musicals is giving the stage to a thrilling performer like Chris, and seeing his once-in-a-lifetime performance unfold at the same moment the audience is watching at home," the producers said in a statement.
Added 71-year-old Christopher, "I started my career in musicals and it’s wonderful after all this time, at this point in my career, to be in this classic musical I watched as a child...It’s a chance to put on my tap shoes again."
