And the most amicable exes award goes to... Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin! Though the A-list couple divorced after 13 years of marriage in 2016, Gwyneth, 45, and Chris, 40, have remained super close for the sake of their two kids, daughter Apple Martin, 13, and son Moses Martin, 11. In fact, Gwyn even described her ex-husband as like a "brother" in a new interview!
"He’s really like my brother, we’re very familial. It’s nice, it’s great," the actress told Stephen Colbert during a Thursday, Jan. 25 The Late Show appearance as the audience began to laugh. "No?" Gwyneth asked, to which Stephen replied, "It's just hard to describe someone you had children with as your brother." Gwyneth then said, "Which would explain the divorce! No, I'm kidding."
"Are you guys more evolved than the rest of us?" Stephen asked Gwyn, referring to their very amicable "conscious uncoupling" a few years ago. "Definitely not. No, but divorce is terrible. It was really painful. It was really hard, and I think we really genuinely wanted our kids to be as unscathed as possible," Gwyn shared. "And we thought, if we could really maintain the family even though we weren’t a couple, that was kind of the goal. So that’s what we’ve tried to do.”
This interestingly isn't the first time Gwyneth has referred to Chris as being like a sibling. "We spend a lot of time together... We’re still very much a family, even though we don’t have a romantic relationship. He’s like my brother," the Iron Man star once said.
Coldplay frontman Chris has also spoken out about his relationship with his ex-wife today. "If you have kids and they start reading about their parents not liking each other, that's not good," he previously tolf NME. "We just spent a long time trying to maintain a friendship so there wouldn't have to be any kind of battle." Gwyneth and Chris remain so close today that the singer is also good friends with Gwyn's new fiancé, Brad Falchuk. What a modern family!
