Throwback! Check Out Jennifer Lopez, Madonna and More Fashion Risk-Takers at Past Grammy Awards

Each year at the Grammys, stars come dressed to the nines in some pretty wild outfits. Though fans look forward to the annual awards ceremony that honors some of the biggest names in music, what’s more exciting is watching the celebs rock their eye-catching ensembles on the red carpet.

Throughout the decades, stars like Jennifer Lopez, Madonna and Sheryl Crow have been total fashion risk-takers, stepping out in some of the most unique — and sometimes revealing — outfits. J. Lo, specifically, went down in Grammys history when she wore a plunging green Versace gown at the 42nd annual Grammy Awards in 2000.

For the 2020 ceremony last year, music superstars Alicia Keys, Gwen Stefani and Ariana Grande, among others, were named as the best-dressed stars of the evening. Alicia donned a silver Versace gown with a cinched waist and a sky-high slit, while Gwen rocked a shell-embroidered Dolce & Gabbana minidress. Ariana, on the other hand, wore a gray Giamabattista Valli ball gown with a multi-layered tulle skirt.

This year’s Grammy Awards — which is taking place on Sunday, March 14 — is going to look a little different, however. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, Hollywood has been forced to adjust to the new normal of face masks and social distancing. This also affected the original air date of January 31.

At the time the show was postponed earlier this year, the Recording Academy and CBS, who is broadcasting the program, released a joint statement, revealing the decision came after the COVID situation in Los Angeles became “deteriorating.”

“With hospital services being overwhelmed, ICUs having reached capacity, and new guidance from state and local governments, [we] conclude that postponing our show was the right thing to do,” the statement read, Rolling Stone reported. “Nothing is more important than the health and safety of those in our music community and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly on producing the show.”

The show will go on, though, and the Recording Academy has every intention of making this year’s Grammy’s as great as the last. “Obviously this is a very unique year. We’ve been looking at all of the shows really closely and I’ve been talking with some of the people who put them together — the creative and also the business side,” interim president and CEO Harvey Mason Jr. told Variety in September 2020. “It’s going to be a spectacular show.”
