Just days after Charlize Theron dispelled rumors she's starring in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey sequel, the actress opened up about what it was like to growup in South Africa — and revealed she used to swim in shark-infested waters as a child!
“[Jeffreys Bay is] a place I used to go as a kid on summer vacations, we had a house [nearby]," she recalled of her childhood during a recent sit-down with USA TODAY. "As a kid we would swim in the ocean and you would hear the lifeguards blowing on their whistles and all the kids would just run out of the water.”

The 39-year-old star then explained, “We would just stand there... and we would watch the sharks swim all the way [out of the bay] and then the whistle would go off again and we would just run back into the water.”

"Now that I'm an adult, now that I have my own kid, I'm just like, 'What were my parents thinking?'" she added, referring to her three-year-old son, Jackson. "They were like, 'Oh, it's okay, just go and have fun at the beach!'"
