After six years of marriage, Brooke Burke officially filed for divorce from her husband, David Charvet, on Friday, April 6, she confirmed in a post on her website, Modern Mom. The Baywatch co-stars first started dating in 2006, and 12 years later, they’re sadly calling it quits.

“You may have heard that David and I are divorcing. We have tried to keep our separation private for some time out of respect for our children and family. Although I believe this is a positive change, I am deeply saddened because I loved being married. It took me a long time to differentiate between giving up and letting go, and even longer to recognize when it was time to do so. We are still a family full of love, simply redefining our dynamics. I believe this is a necessary decision for my entire family unit.”

Brooke and David wed in August 2011 in a secret ceremony on the beach in St. Barts. During their longtime relationship, they welcomed two children together, 11-year-old daughter Heaven Rain and 10-year-old son Shaya Braven. David was also a stepfather to Brooke’s two daughters from her previous marriage to Garth Fisher.

People first started speculating that there was trouble in paradise for the two when Brooke and the kids attended an Operation Smile event in Park City, UT in March and she was spotted without her wedding ring. “They’ve been separated for a couple of months and tried as hard as they could to make their marriage work, but at the end of the day they have to do what’s right for them and their family,” a source close to the family revealed to People.

Brooke also shared in her post that the split happened quite amicably. “There was nothing sensational that caused this divorce and nothing scandalous will surface, please believe that we are just finding new ways to remain a loving family,” the Dancing With the Stars alum said. “Big life decisions are hardest when made for the right reasons. It is sometimes painful to be strong and embrace change. I believe in letting go of ideas and dreams when the time is right. I am in that space right now as a woman and a mother, listening to my heart. I am approaching this with gratitude and unconditional love.”
