Bill Paxton is dead after passing away from complications during surgery. The actor — who is best known for his roles in films like Titanic, The Terminator, and Aliens — was only 61 years old.
“It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery,” read a statement from a family representative, obtained by People. “A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.”
Bill underwent heart surgery on Saturday, Feb. 25 and he started to have complications after the operation later that day, TMZ reported. He passed away after suffering a fatal stroke, and he is survived by his 22-year-old son James, 19-year-old daughter Lydia, and his wife Louise Newbury.
His Hollywood co-stars have taken to social media to mourn his death and to post tributes to him and his acting career.
“Bill Paxton was such a talented comic actor, his work in #TrueLies is fantastic. Long career. Long Marriage. A hard loss,” Jamie Lee Curtis, who starred alongside Bill in the 1994 hit film True Lies, wrote on Instagram.
“Heartbroken to hear about #BillPaxton passing away! He was one of those actors that you don't think about often but appears in all your favorite films. My years have been filled with him on my screen telling great stories!” Melissa Joan Hart captioned a collage of Bill in a few of his popular roles.
