Bette Midler has an exciting new gig!
The 70-year-old showbiz icon will return to Broadway to star in the 2017 Hello, Dolly! revival, she announced via Twitter on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

"Yes, I am taking on the role of the beloved Dolly Levi in Hello, Dolly!" she tweeted. "We open next year on Broadway! So excited!"
"Many times through the years I've been asked about bringing back Hello, Dolly! — and it has always been, 'Who would be my dream Dolly?'" the show's composer, Jerry Herman, said in a statement regarding the new staging of the classic musical.

"Who is out there that has the necessary stature, warmth, the incredible talent and ability, and especially the singular, outsized personality that I was looking for in a 21st Century Dolly? Only one person: Bette Midler," he added, according to People.
This new stage role marks Bette's first return to Broadway since her 2013 appearance in the play I'll Eat You Last: A Chat With Sue Mengers. Prior to that one-woman performance, she hadn't appeared on the Great White Way in 40 years!
