Barbara Walters is without a doubt one of the most successful female broadcast journalists of all time. But “The View” host has expressed regret over not taking time to have a larger family, instead focusing on her blossoming career.
When Walters appeared on “Piers Morgan“ Tuesday evening (clip below), he asked her, “If you could relive one moment in your life, the moment that brought you the greatest satisfaction, thrill, sadness perhaps, the moment?”
The 84-year-old answered, “Can I tell you what I regret when you're talking that way? I regret not having more children.”
The visibly emotional Walters added, “I would have loved to have had a bigger family. I have one daughter. I don't have brothers and sisters.”
The legendary broadcaster is mother to Jackie, who she adopted with second husband Lee Guber. Walters has been married a total of four times, but to three different men. She remarried her last husband Merv Adelson a second time after initially divorcing in 1984.
And despite the regret talk, Walters couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunities she’s had!
“In terms of my career, beyond anything I expected,' she said. “And I don't know exactly what it's going to be like when I stop working.”
She jokingly added, “I hope you ask me back when no one else does.”
Walters plans on retiring from journalism in May 2014.
