Though it’s been seven years since Ashton Kutcher divorced Demi Moore, the actor has continued to speak out about his ill-fated first marriage. In fact, the 40-year-old star recently revealed on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast that he fasted for a week in the mountains after splitting from Demi, 55, in 2011. “Right after I got divorced, I went to the mountains for a week by myself. I went into Big Sky in Montana, and I did no food, no drink — just water and tea,” Ashton confessed.

“I took all my computers away, my phone, my everything. I was there by myself so there was no talking, and I just had a notepad and a pen and water and tea for a week. I started to hallucinate on like day two which was fantastic. It was pretty wonderful. I was doing tai chi with my own energy,” he continued.

During his solo stay in the wilderness, Ashton explained that he reflected on all of his past romances. “I wrote down every single relationship that I had where I felt like there was some grudge or some anything and then I wrote letters to every single person and sent the letters on day seven. I typed them all out and sent them. It was almost like an [Alcoholics Anonymous] exercise, where I was like, ‘I probably have done some damage,’ so I just cleared [my] palate. [The experience was] really spiritual and kind of awesome,” he said.

Ashton and Demi tied the knot in September 2005 and were married for seven years before the Ghost star announced their separation in fall 2011. Two years after Ashton finalized his divorce from Demi in 2013, he exchanged vows with his former That ’70s Show co-star Mila Kunis, 34. The couple is now parents to two kids, daughter Wyatt Isabelle Kutcher, 3, and son Dimitri Portwood Kutcher, 1.

Ashton’s recent chat with Dax isn’t the first time he’s openly talked about his divorce from Demi. While speaking at the 2016 Airbnb Open in LA, the Jobs star admitted he lived in Airbnbs for a year after his separation from Demi. “I went to Europe and I flew in and got in in the middle of the night. I arrived at the Airbnb at 2:00 am. The [house rental host] had left me dinner and a glass of wine. It was… the magic and the love that I needed in that moment. I was shocked that someone would care that much about a total stranger.”
