Meet Jim, a (fictional) 32-year-old father who stands 5'9'' and weighs 300 lbs. Jim has been rushed to the hospital after suffering a heart attack, and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta wants you to know why.
In this year-old anti-obesity PSA now gaining internet traction, we rewind through Jim's life to witness how his unhealthy eating habits have led to this moment.
First we see adult Jim waiting in fast-food drive-thru lines and becoming winded after playing with his kid. Child Jim sits and plays video games and chooses to eat two corn dogs at school while giving away his apple. And baby Jim is seen being fed French fries as it's the only snack that keeps him from crying.
After fast-forwarding back to the operating table where Jim lies, a message flashes across the screen: "Your child's future doesn't have to look like this. There's still time to reverse the unhealthy habits our kids take into adulthood."
The video has received mixed reviews with some calling it a necessary eye-opener while others feel it puts too much blame on parents.
Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's Strong4Life website tells its viewers not to worry. "We didn’t create the video to make you feel guilty," they write.
Watch the PSA below and then share your thoughts in the comments section. Is the video too harsh or is it simply displaying the scary truth?
