Like Angelina Jolie, These Celebrities Have Also Suffered From Bell’s Palsy — but What Is It?

When Angelina Jolie gave a highly anticipated interview to Vanity Fair where she finally opened up about her pending divorce from Brad Pitt, she also made another shocking revelation — she was diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy. Fortunately, she was able to cure it with acupuncture, but her admittance brought a new awareness to the condition that many didn’t know about.

Bell’s Palsy is a type of facial paralysis that affects the muscles in the face, causing droopiness, numbness, and slurring of speech. The condition is, fortunately, temporary for most people who are diagnosed, but for some, the side effects never go away. Even worse, for many people who have had the condition, they tend to get it when they’re young, ill, or suffering from stress. In Angelina’s case, her bout with the condition seems to have been triggered by the latter.

The 42-year-old already underwent a hysterectomy in 2015 and a double mastectomy in 2013, which she was quite vocal about at the time. She said she got both procedures done after learning she had a gene mutation that increased her risk for breast cancer and ovarian cancer. She continued to list her health issues again in her recent Vanity Fair interview. In it, she mentioned dealing with more gray hair and drier skin than usual, which she attributed to the stressful year she had dealing with the separation from Brad, who she was with for more than a decade.

“I can’t tell if it’s menopause or if it’s just been the year I’ve had,” she said in the interview.

But Angelina isn’t the only celebrity to have Bell’s Palsy — others stars have had it too. Check out the gallery below to see additional celebrities who have been diagnosed with the condition.
