Being the center of attention can definitely be stressful, but this seems a little extreme! Amy Adams made her husband Darren Le Gallo wait 14 years before finally getting married in May 2015, and now she’s finally revealed the reason why!

While being honored for her amazing work over the years at the 2017 American Cinematheque Awards, Amy was asked a simple question: how does it feel knowing everyone is here to celebrate you? “It’s like worse than my wedding,” she told E! News. She must have realized that was a weird thing to say because she continued by explaining, “I’m not the kind of person… I avoided getting married for a really long time because I don’t like people looking at me.”

It may seem odd for an actress to put off the most important day of her life just because people will be looking at her, and Amy explained why being on-screen isn’t as hard. “I don’t like to be the center of attention,” she said. “When I’m promoting a film I can sort of be there for the film and I can be there for the director. But when it’s a just a night like tonight it becomes very singular.” But don’t worry! That doesn’t mean she hated her intimate wedding ceremony in California. “I had a great time at my wedding,” she explained. It just takes her a while to “relax” in those situations.

In a 2013 interview, Amy gave a different reason for the wait, saying “we both have a very specific idea that we want to [have a ceremony] in spring or fall, like in those months, but every time I’m busy working. I want something very family-oriented and laid-back,” she told Vanity Fair. Sounds like an excuse to us!
