Alan Thicke, actor, talk-show host, writer, producer, composer, singer, motivational speaker and now reality TV star, gave Closer Weekly an inside look at his weekend getaway horse ranch which he has converted into a full-time home and set for his family’s upcoming comedy-reality show.

The family recently finished shooting 14 episodes of a faux-reality comedy show, Unusually Thicke, in which they play themselves. It’s set to air in Canada in the spring, and Alan is shopping U.S. distribution rights. “We had reservations about doing a typical reality show where you throw wine at each other and tip tables over,” he tells Closer. “We wanted to do a more lighthearted one.”

Alan and his wife, Tanya Callau, tried out the ranch as the setting for a reality show last spring, when they filmed "Celebrity Wife Swap," in which Tanya switched places with the wife of frugal comic Gilbert Gottfried (“I can’t say much of that rubbed off,” Alan quips).

Their tranquil spot is “zoned in an agricultural area, so at night it gets pitch-black, except for the moon and the stars,” he says. But the peaceful atmosphere doesn’t keep the family from partying.

Alan hosted “Blurred Lines” superstar son Robin’s wedding to actress Paula Patton on the ranch in 2005 and the festivities continued into the early morning. “It was so noisy with music that the police shut us down at about 1 a.m. That’s probably a sign of a good party!” Alan recalls with a laugh.
