Rest in peace, Rita Gam.

The 1950s actress and first wife of well-known movie director Sidney Lumet sadly died on Tuesday, March 22 in LA from respiratory failure, Rita’s publicist confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. She was 88-years-old.

Throughout her showbiz career, Rita starred in films Saadia, Sign of the Pagan, The Thief, Night People, Magic Fire and King of Kings. She additionally appeared in several stage productions including Wit & Wisdom, Hamlet and There’s a Girl in My Soup.

Throughout her life, Rita was a close friend of late actress Grace Kelly and even served as a bridesmaid at her April 1956 wedding to *Prince Rainier III *.

She is survived by her daughter, film producer Kate Guinzburg, her son, novelist Michael Guinzburg, and her three granddaughters, Michelle, Olivia and Louisa.
