Danny Nickerson's sixth birthday is on July 24, and he's received over 1,000 cards from around the world!
Why? Because his mom Carley set out to make this birthday as special and memorable as possible, since it'll very likely be his last.
Danny was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor known as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma last year. According to his doctors, less than 10% of children diagnosed with the disease live longer than 18 months.
On the Facebook page she created for her son, Danny's Warriors, Carley posted the following message on July 1:
As news began to spread about the birthday mission, more and more letters arrived each day:
“We are so shocked,” Carley wrote on Facebook. “We are so lucky and blessed to have all of you on this journey with us! Thank you so much for all the love, support and prayers."
Not only has Danny's community of Foxborough, Mass. rallied behind him — local high schoolers held a car wash fundraiser this past weekend — but people from all over the world have sent letters and gifts.
Though the blonde-haired cutie is undergoing chemotherapy every 2 weeks, Carley said her and her family are focused on the positives.
"Every day is a blessing to us," she recently told a Foxborough reporter.
